About us
The Scientific and Innovation System is an integrated network of 17 institutions engaged in Research, Development, and Innovation in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Thanks to the presence of high-level scientific expertise from all over the world and a wide range of internationally recognised research infrastructures, this region is an ideal location for conducting Research & Development activities.
Since 2016, SiS FVG has been the strategic tool for enhancing the value of regional innovation and of the scientific and technological system, ensuring and increasing the socio-economic returns of research activities on the territory.
Regarded as a “hub” for science and technology, Friuli Venezia Giulia boasts a large community of foreign scientists and students and a significant network of public and private research institutions that benefit from international research infrastructures and often work in synergy with economic and innovation stakeholders.
This initiative stems from a Programme Agreement signed in 2016 and renewed in October 2021 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), and the Regional Authority.
The Agreement establishes the creation of a Scientific and Innovation System that strengthens the coordination of scientific activities and the sharing of services, thereby fostering the connection between the scientific and economic spheres.
The activities planned by the network and the partner institutions are outlined in a single shared periodic document: the SiS FVG Operational Plan. The interventions included in the 2024–2026 Operational Plan are currently being implemented.

Objectives
System and Promoters
Initiated in 2004 as Coordination of Research Bodies, since 2016 the System has been strengthening collaboration between R&D stakeholders in Friuli Venezia Giulia to generate economic and social impacts.
SiS FVG was created on the initiative of:
- The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI)
- The Ministry of University and Research (MUR)
The participation of the Ministries ensures integration with national and international activities conducted in the field of Research & Development.
