SiS FVG and Area Science Park, in collaboration with the Trieste Science Plus Fiction Festival, are organising the Science Fiction Cineforum 2025: a series of events at the intersection of science, science fiction, and cinema, featuring screenings at the Area Science Park Campus in Padriciano (Conference Hall).
A cycle of three events where each science fiction film screening will be accompanied by a scientific discussion, exploring research topics related to the film’s plot, whether plausible, potential, or entirely speculative.
The selected films, all winners of recent editions of the Festival, will be screened in their original version (with Italian and English subtitles) and will be preceded by a conversation with a scientist, who will introduce one of the scientific themes at the core of the film.
The events are free of charge and open to all, subject to registration for each individual screening.
Additionally, all participants are invited to enjoy a small aperitif before the event, starting from 5.15 p.m..

U ARE THE UNIVERSE
Ukraine, 2024 – 101’
In the near future, space trucker Andriy Melnyk transports nuclear waste on a cargo ship headed to Callisto, Saturn’s abandoned moon. A sci-fi thriller set in the 23rd century, where Earth has turned into a vast suburban sprawl, while the wealthy have relocated to Mars. Their search leads them to the underworld of Mars’s capital, where they uncover a sinister trade in brain farms and deep-seated corruption. A missing girl seems to hold a secret about robots that could change the fate of the univers.

1940. Sisters Thom and Mars build a machine, LOLA, which intercepts radio and television broadcasts from the future. As World War II escalates, they decide to use future information to aid military intelligence, helping to turn the tide against the Nazi regime. But as Thom becomes consumed by LOLA’s power, Mars realises its terrifying consequences. Can their love for each other save the world they are about to lose?
