IAP – The InterAcademy Partnership
Under the umbrella of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), some 150 national, regional and global academies collaborate to support the vital role of science in finding evidence-based solutions to the world’s most challenging problems. The IAP harnesses the expertise of the world’s brightest scientific minds to advance sound policies, improve public health, promote excellence in science education and achieve other critical development goals.
IAP’s member academies represent over 30,000 scientists, engineers and health professionals from more than 100 countries. Academies are independent and highly committed institutions that recognise and promote scientific excellence and merit, and play an essential role in civil society by informing the public and policy makers about problems and possible solutions.
At the international level, IAP provides collective mechanisms to strengthen the crucial roles of academies as evidence-based policy providers. They produce evidence-based statements and reports examining the main priorities for sustainable development and provide independent and authoritative advice to national governments and intergovernmental organisations, including the United Nations. In addition, IAP helps build the capacity of new and less experienced member academies, strengthening their ability to take an advisory role in their nations and contribute to global discussions.
